Madison's Story

In an instant, my entire life changed at just 19 years old.

I was on my way to watch a hockey game with some friends when we were involved in a serious car accident. Shortly after, I was diagnosed with a neurological condition that primarily affects my nervous system and how my brain and body send and receive signals, leaving me a full-time wheelchair user.

As you can imagine, it was quite the adjustment. I had just graduated high school, was attending university, and was working full-time. I had big dreams and a full schedule. Then, in one moment, everything changed. Through the challenges that followed, I had to rediscover who I was and learn that resilience isn't about the life you planned, it's about finding purpose in the life you have.

Everything changed again when I discovered para hockey.

As someone who had always loved hockey, I never imagined I'd be back on the ice. Para hockey didn't just reconnect me with the sport I love, it introduced me to an incredible community and gave me hope, purpose, and a renewed sense of belonging.

Through grief, rediscovery, and new beginnings, I am dedicated to sharing my story in the hope of inspiring others and showing them that there can be purpose through pain.
